Koloa Mill Run 2025
Dick will share with us the ins and outs of managing the Koloa Mill Run 5k 10k. RC Kauai is considering discontinuing this event. It's in our back yard, and a worthy activity.
Consider picking up this Event for RC Poipu Beach
Quick review of the financial statements:
· The only money that we made was from sponsors. They are critical to making a profit. Dupont-Pioneer (Laurie) has zero dollars this year. Not even sponsoring for the parade. Wilcox/PCH also has no money due to the labor strikes.
· The cost of food, police, water, shirts, timer, etc. has increased significantly, especially since the Covid years. Police cost was up 27% for the parade in 2024.
· The number of runners has decreased as we raised the entry/registration price
Operational considerations:
· A date for the run needs to be set.
· To have a location for the start of the run must be reserved several months to a year ahead of time when using the county property.
· New measurements for the half-marathon must be made.
· T-shirts need to be ordered well in advance.
· The trucks used in the past are not available. New sources will have to be found.
· A location to load/pack and distribute race packets needs to be arranged well in advance.
· Music needs consideration.
Assets – people:
· On the day of the run, it takes several people to work the aid stations and control center.
· People for rubbish clean-up must be assigned.
· Some individuals need to be ready to deliver and serve beverages and food. That includes water at each aid station.
· Someone must dedicate their time to accepting phone calls for weeks before and the day of the race.
· A race director is critical. Someone needs to take leadership.
